Ultrasound Module

Overview

Ultrasound image processing - redefined

Advanced ultrasound, in your application

Bring advanced ultrasound imaging directly into your application. Our SDK supports 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound workflows—from hardware integration and real-time image analysis to calibration, volume compounding, freehand 3D reconstruction, and interventional guidance. GPU acceleration keeps processing fast enough for demanding real-time applications.

A medical-grade ultrasound stack

Build on a medical-grade software stack instead of starting from scratch. ImFusion brings ultrasound acquisition, visualization, processing, reconstruction, and hardware integration into a single framework, giving you the building blocks to turn prototypes into robust clinical applications. The Ultrasound module is available with our Starter and Professional SDK plans.

Highlights

Explore what you can do with the Ultrasound module

Live B-mode ultrasound frame with probe geometry and acquisition parameters

Hardware integration

Connect directly to commercial ultrasound systems and OEM hardware, with access at different stages of the imaging pipeline—from channel data (RF, IQ) to B-mode images. Our integrations and GPU-accelerated beamforming let you focus on your application rather than the underlying acquisition infrastructure. And when a video output is all you have, we can extract the ultrasound image directly via HDMI framegrabbing.

  • Ultrasound: GE, Verasonics, Cephasonics, Telemed
  • Optical Tracking: NDI Polaris, Atracsys, OptiTrack
  • Electromagnetic Tracking: NDI Aurora, Ascension
  • Robotic integrations
  • Framegrabbing: Epiphan and OS-supported video streams

Ultrasound image formation

Take control of the ultrasound imaging pipeline—from programming acquisition sequences and accessing raw channel data to real-time beamforming and B-mode image formation. Our Ultrasound Image Formation module gives you access to intermediate processing stages, so you can customize individual steps, develop new imaging methods, or build complete low-level ultrasound workflows without starting from scratch.infrastructure. And when a video output is all you have, we can extract the ultrasound image directly via HDMI framegrabbing.

  • Program focused, plane-wave, and diverging-wave acquisition sequences
  • GPU-accelerated beamforming and coherent compounding
  • Filtering, IQ demodulation, envelope detection, and log compression
  • Run the same processing workflows live or on recorded data
  • Accelerated Verasonics Vantage® NXT integration available

Real-time image analysis

Build real-time pipelines for image enhancement, segmentation, detection, and feature extraction, including AI-based processing directly in the live imaging workflow.

  • Image filtering, segmentation, detection, and feature extraction
  • AI inference integrated into real-time processing pipelines
  • Application-specific analysis such as live bone surface extraction

Calibration and volume compounding

We help you calibrate spatially and temporally — including a calibration wizard in ImFusion Suite for 3D freehand ultrasound — and compound (reconstruct) sweeps into a volume as you scan.

  • Reproducible spatial and temporal calibration
  • Calibration wizard in ImFusion Suite
  • Live volume compounding of freehand sweeps
AI-based tracking estimation for freehand ultrasound reconstruction

3D free-hand ultrasound reconstruction

Turn freehand 2D ultrasound acquisitions into 3D volumes. With external tracking, images can be reconstructed directly along the recorded probe trajectory. When tracking is unavailable, image-based and AI methods can estimate probe motion from the ultrasound sequence itself, enabling 3D reconstruction from untracked acquisitions.

  • 3D reconstruction from freehand 2D clips
  • Image- and AI-based estimation of probe motion
  • 3D reconstruction from untracked ultrasound sequences

Building blocks for interventional applications

Go beyond ultrasound visualization and use it as part of a complete image-guidance workflow. ImFusion provides building blocks for real-time segmentation, multimodal registration, simulation, and navigation—connecting intra-operative ultrasound with pre-operative imaging and other sources of clinical information.

  • Real-time segmentation and application-specific post-processing
  • Rigid, affine, and deformable image registration with multimodal similarity metrics
  • Registration of pre- and intra-operative imaging
  • Ultrasound simulation from anatomical label maps and tissue parameters
  • Building blocks for real-time guidance and navigation
